Ravens vs Chargers Anytime Touchdown Scorer Picks for Monday Night Football Week 12 - CoversPrime Minister Anthony Albanese has been labelled the weakest leader since the early 2000s as Labor prepare to go into damage control following a new poll. A Newspoll, released Sunday night, on the key characteristics deemed crucial to run the country found Mr Albanese had continued to fall behind Opposition Leader Peter Dutton. Voters were questioned on nine categories relating to the two party leaders including experience, decisive and strong, has a vision for Australia, understands the major issues, cares for people, arrogant, likeable, in touch with voters and trustworthiness. Mr Albanese lost points in seven of the nine categories. On being decisive and strong, the PM dropped from 49 per cent agree back in June to 44 per cent in December, while Mr Dutton remain at 60 per cent. That statistic comes amid the government continuing to come under pressure from Australians and the Coalition over antisemitism in the country and the accusation Labor are not acting strong enough on incidents such as the Melbourne synagogue fire. The targeted attack on Friday left at least one worshipper injured and the Jewish community angry at the lack of action from politicians and even police. The Australian Federal Police's Deputy Commissioner Krissy Barrett is set to fly from the nation's capital to Melbourne on Monday for talks with counter-terrorism police to determine if the latter should be part of the investigation into the synagogue attack. Mr Albanese on Sunday said he believed the act was terror-related . In the poll conducted for The Australian, the PM also dropped to 56 per cent when voters were asked if they agree he had a vision for Australia's future. Mr Dutton surveyed stronger, rising from 59 per cent to 61 per cent. Both leaders remained the same from the last poll on understanding the major issues category, with Mr Albanese at 54 per cent, while Mr Dutton is on 58 per cent. While the PM's stakes rose in terms of experience, two points up to 68 per cent, his rival remained ahead with 70 per cent believing he is more experienced. Mr Dutton meanwhile is not resonating with voters in terms of his personality, with his likeability (40 per cent), trustworthiness (41 per cent), cares for people (45 per cent), all behind on Mr Albanese. Respondents say Mr Dutton is also more arrogant (58 per cent). Despite the positive results for the Opposition Leader, he still lost three points to the Labor leader in terms of who would make the better PM (45 per cent to 38 per cent). The two-party preferred is also back at a tie on 50-50 two-party preferred, after the Coalition was ahead by two points the previous couple of months. Asked if an election was held today and who would they vote for, the Coalition dropped one point to 39 per cent while Labor remained steady at 33 per cent. The Newspoll was conducted exclusively for The Australian between December 2 and December 6 last week, questioning 1,258 voters across the country.NoneRomania's far-right presidential candidate denounces canceled vote at closed polling station

American car manufacturer Cadillac will become the eleventh team on the Formula One grid in 2026, after the sport's owners announced Monday they had given their backing to the plan. Formula 1 said it had reached "an agreement in principle" with General Motors (GM), which owns Cadillac, to support bringing a team into the paddock. "Formula 1 has maintained a dialogue with General Motors, and its partners at TWG Global, regarding the viability of an entry following the commercial assessment and decision made by Formula 1 in January 2024," Formula One said in its statement. "Over the course of this year, they have achieved operational milestones and made clear their commitment to brand the eleventh team GM/Cadillac, and that GM will enter as an engine supplier at a later time," Formula One said in a statement. The cars are expected to be powered by Ferrari before it develops its own engines. The move comes after Formula 1 rejected the bid which was headed up by Andretti – owned by Michael Andretti, son of 1978 world champion Mario Andretti – earlier this year. Nearly a fortnight ago, GM announced it had registered with the FIA to become a Formula One engine manufacturer from 2028, offering support to Andretti's bid to join the F1 grid. The Andretti name has since been dropped from the proposal with Michael no longer involved, although Mario is understood to be taking on an ambassadorial role. "It's an honour for General Motors and Cadillac to join the world's premier racing series, and we're committed to competing with passion and integrity to elevate the sport for race fans around the world," said GM president Mark Reuss. The US has become an increasingly important stop on the F1 tour. This announcement comes less than 48 hours after the Las Vegas Grand Prix which, after Miami and Austin, is the third US race on the calendar. The Netflix series 'Drive to Survive' has also boosted the sport's profile in the US. FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who had been in favour of the original Andretti bid, said he was "fully supportive" of the arrival of the GM/Cadillac team. "All parties, including the FIA, will continue to work together to ensure the process progresses smoothly," he said. Stefano Domenicali, the president and CEO of Formula 1, described the news as "an important and positive demonstration of the evolution of our sport". "We look forward to seeing the progress and growth of this entry, certain of the full collaboration and support of all the parties involved," he said. (AFP)
🎅SantaCons in NJ, NYC 🚆Drink ban on NJ Transit 🎄Attendees urged to be 'nice' not naughty In addition to family friendly holiday fun, this is also the season of sauced Santas gathering en masse in New Jersey and its neighboring states. NJ Transit has preemptively banned all beverages on its trains, light rail vehicles and buses on Saturday, Dec. 14 — to coincide with this year’s SantaCon event in New York City. “No beverages of any kind, in any type of container, open or closed, will be permitted on board trains, buses or light rail vehicles during this time. This policy will be strictly enforced,” the transit agency said on Tuesday. There will be roving packs of revelers on this side of the Hudson River, too. Seaside Heights and Morristown both have SantaCon events planned on Saturday. For Seaside, there has been an effort to clean up the event’s image. “SantaCon is not a bar crawl. Every time you call it that, a sugarplum fairy dies,” according to the Seaside SantaCon website. Instead, it starts with donations of non-perishable food items and an unwrapped toy for local charity. Last year, SantaCon Seaside Heights raised over $6,800, collected 254 toys and 477 food items for donation, according to event organizers on social media. Morristown has a different approach, using the pub crawl as its anchoring event for this upcoming Saturday. Atlantic City also has a SantaCon event listed for Saturday, with tickets selling on eventbrite. SantaCon season has been staggered, as Hoboken will see its influx of Santas on Dec. 21. NJ Transit will enact the same all-day beverage ban on its trains, light rail and buses all day. There was already one such festive gathering in Mercer County — Princeton SantaCon appeared to be cheerful as it unfolded last weekend. NYC Video Tours caught the sea of Santa suits in Manhattan last December, as shared to Youtube. The Madhya Pradesh High Court has provided a temporary relief to Chairperson Rashmi Saluja amid a fight for the control of Religare Enterprises Ltd. In an order on Dec. 18, the court halted an annual general meeting of Religare that was scheduled to take place on Dec. 31. A bench of Chief Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Vijay Kumar also stayed the Reserve Bank of India's approval of the Burman family's open offer, which would allow them to acquire a 26% stake in the company. The order comes as a relief to Saluja as the decision on her reappointment has been delayed due to the court's intervention. The Burman family, which is the largest shareholder of the company, has been seeking to oust Saluja, raising questions about the future leadership and control of Religare. The high court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by advocate Vijayant Mishra for protecting the interests of minority shareholders of Religare. Mishra argued that the proposed acquisition by the Burman family could lead to control being concentrated in the hands of a few, potentially undermining the interests of over 73,000 minority shareholders. Religare Enterprises confirmed the court’s stay in a filing to the BSE and the National Stock Exchange on Thursday, saying that the notice for the AGM would remain on hold until further orders. The Burman family, through its entities, placed orders to acquire up to 1.73 crore equity shares, representing 5.27% of Religare's equity, at a maximum price of Rs 235 per share. This move is part of their strategy to surpass the 25% threshold, triggering an open offer obligation as required by regulations governing non-bank financial companies. While the RBI had given approval for the increase in shareholding, it has withheld approval for the proposed appointment of four new directors at this stage. The Dallas Cowboys are shutting down CeeDee Lamb for the rest of the season after the star wideout played through a shoulder injury for nearly two months. Lamb initially sprained the AC joint in his right shoulder on Nov. 3 but has not missed any of the Cowboys' first 15 games this season. "Additional examinations and scans this week on CeeDee Lamb's shoulder have determined that his injury has now progressed to a point that he will be listed as ‘Out' for the remaining two games of the season," a team spokesperson said in a statement to media outlets. "He will undergo a process of treatment and rehabilitation for his shoulder, is not currently expected to require surgery and is projected to make a full recovery." The Cowboys (7-8), eliminated from playoff contention, face two division rivals to close the season. They visit the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday and will host the Washington Commanders in Week 18. Lamb, 25, hauled in 101 receptions for 1,194 yards and six touchdowns this season. It marked his fourth straight 1,000-yard season, and he may be selected to a fourth straight Pro Bowl for his efforts. Lamb signed a four-year, $136 million contract extension in August, covering the 2025-28 seasons. --Field Level Media
MADRID : A second-half double from Antoine Griezmann earned Atletico Madrid a stunning 4-3 comeback home win over Sevilla in LaLiga on Sunday, as the hosts claimed their ninth straight win in all competitions. Atletico made a dominant start at home, with Griezmann hitting the crossbar before Rodrigo De Paul opened the scoring in the 10th minute, hammering a rocket from the edge of the box and into the top corner. Sevilla's Dodi Lukebakio equalised just two minutes later with a powerful low strike following a corner before Isaac Romero put them ahead after a quick counter-attack in the 32nd minute, shooting across goalkeeper Jan Oblak, who could only get a finger to the ball. Juanlu Sanchez extended the visitors' advantage in the 57th minute with a close-range finish off Kike Salas's second assist of the game before Griezmann pulled one back for Atletico five minutes later. Substitute Samuel Lino struck from long range to beat Sevilla keeper Alvaro Fernandez, who had pulled off some key saves but could not prevent the Brazilian's first goal of the season. Griezmann found the net again four minutes into stoppage time to seal the victory that left Atletico third in the standings with 35 points, one behind Real Madrid and three shy of leaders Barcelona.Maharashtra govt formation: Deal was Shiv Sena chief would be CM, says neta close to Eknath Shinde - The Times of IndiaJulen Lopetegui says West Ham were worthy winners at Newcastle
Weave Communications director Blake Modersitzki sells $2.76 million in stockTELECOMMUNICATION giants PLDT Inc. and Globe Telecom Inc. said on Thursday they are stepping up initiatives to safeguard customers and enterprises from malicious online activities, as cyber threats and scams continue to proliferate in the Philippines. In separate statements, both companies said they have developed comprehensive measures to counter cybercrime, underscoring their commitment to create a safer digital environment. PLDT Enterprise First Vice President John Gonzales said the group is focusing on cutting-edge technological solutions to combat cybercrime, particularly as mobile transactions dominate the digital landscape. “The Philippines is a mobile-first country. Today, 64 percent of transactions here are conducted on mobile devices, and because of the high volume of transactions, the Philippines has become a major target for malicious actors,” Gonzales said. He said PLDT has aligned with GSMA’s Open Gateway Initiative, which fosters standardized APIs for secure and seamless digital experience. He cited the rollout of three key services in 2024: silent authentication to replace OTPs, device location validation for fraud detection, and enhanced Know Your Customer (KYC) processes to ensure secure transactions. “PLDT and Smart fully understand the critical role of telcos in fighting fraudulent activities. We are very thankful for GSMA who has been driving anti-fraud measures globally by uniting telcos, app developers, enterprises and other stakeholders to create mechanisms against fraud,” Gonzales said. In addition to technological advancements, PLDT and Smart are proactively collaborating with industry stakeholders and government agencies to tackle scams like SMShing and the use of illegal cell towers. The group has already blocked nearly two billion malicious text messages and blacklisted almost a million scam-related numbers in 2024. “Our role in continuously educating consumers and enterprises is also something we take seriously. Together, we must continue to build awareness of cybercrimes and ways to prevent them, putting in place a comprehensive defense against fraud and scams,” he said. Globe Telecom, meanwhile, is using its Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) to educate Filipinos on digital citizenship and cybersecurity. The program reached 6,196 participants in 2024, including students, parents, and community members all over the country. “With the accelerated digital transformation comes growing online threats, particularly fraud, to which more and more Filipinos fall victim every day. These threats rob online customers of their hard-earned money, impacting their mental and physical health,” said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer at Globe. In November alone, the DTP reached 450 participants in areas like Ilocos Sur, Pampanga, Rizal, and Davao del Norte, offering workshops on recognizing scams, ethical internet use, and AI ethics. These sessions are part of Globe’s broader efforts to promote digital safety and responsibility, particularly among young Filipinos. “Globe believes the antidote is education, that’s why we are bringing DTP to schools across the country. If our young people are aware of what to look out for and how to protect themselves online, they will get to enjoy the benefits of technology safely, spared from becoming another scam statistic,” she added. Globe’s impact extends beyond education, with its active blocking of threats such as spam, scam SMS, and harmful websites. By the third quarter of 2024, Globe had blocked 162.7 million scam texts, 167,408 malicious URLs, and 20,509 scam-linked SIMs, among others. Muscat: Eight months after announcing an ambitious $250 million expansion plan in Oman, France-based SNF, one of the world’s leading providers of integrated solutions for chemical enhanced oil recovery (EOR), announced that it has received approval to set up a polymer production project in Oman. “Oman is emerging as a key player in the Middle East polymer market and I am delighted to inform Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn) has given the company the go ahead for setting up the plant recently,” said Jimmy Nesbitt, General Manager of SNF Oman, at a press conference in The Jungle Restaurant in Muscat. “With more than 20 years of in-country presence in the Sultanate of Oman, this project is a testament to the company’s focus on sustainability, innovation, and in-country value,” he claimed. He further said that the facility, designed to produce high-performance anionic polymers, will likely to play a key role in enhancing chemical EOR capabilities and meeting the fast-growing needs of regional clients. “The plant is also expected to produce local employment opportunities, generate in-country value, and establish Oman as a key player in the Middle East polymer market,” he added. “This is an extraordinary step forward,” he said. “We’ve moved from concept to tangible progress on the ground. The support from the Omani government and our local partners has been instrumental in reaching this stage.” He also claimed that SNF’s Regional SNF Technical Centre (RSTC Oman) in Muscat has entered its final stages of development. “The delivery of highly advanced laboratory equipment is well underway. The RSTC is set to open in the first months of 2025, fulfilling its vision of serving as SNF’s GCC R&D hub. The centre will support oil and gas innovation in the region, focusing on polymer research for EOR, specialising in carbonate reservoirs, Water Shut-Off, and other cutting-edge technologies. The facility will also provide critical technical support throughout the lifecycle of SNF’s projects, ensuring efficiency and sustainability,” he added. In line with its commitment to in-country value, SNF has prioritized local recruitment and talent development. Through collaborations with Omani universities and institutions, SNF is fostering the next generation of experts in oilfield technologies and sustainability practices. “The RSTC is more than just a technical facility,” he said. “It’s a hub for knowledge exchange and skill development, creating long-term value for Oman’s workforce and industry.”Walker has 22 as Binghamton knocks off Lancaster Bible 85-60
DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) — Russian state news agencies are reporting that ousted Syrian President Bashar Assad has arrived in Moscow with his family and given asylum. The agencies, Tass and RIA, cited an unidentified Kremlin source. The Associated Press was not immediately able to verify the reports but has contacted the Kremlin for comment. RIA also cited an anonymous Kremlin source that Moscow had received guarantees from Syrian insurgents of the security of Russian military bases and diplomatic posts in Syria. The report did not give further details. Assad reportedly left Syria early Sunday. Syrians have been pouring into streets echoing with celebratory gunfire after a stunning rebel advance reached the capital, ending the Assad family’s 50 years of iron rule . THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. AP’s earlier story follows below. DAMASCUS, Syria (AP) — Syrians poured into streets echoing with celebratory gunfire on Sunday after a stunning rebel advance reached the capital, ending the Assad family's 50 years of iron rule but raising questions about the future of the country and the wider region. Joyful crowds gathered in squares in Damascus, waving the Syrian revolutionary flag in scenes that recalled the early days of the Arab Spring uprising, before a brutal crackdown and the rise of an insurgency plunged the country into a nearly 14-year civil war. Others gleefully ransacked the presidential palace and residence after President Bashar Assad and other top officials vanished, their whereabouts unknown. Russia, a close ally, said Assad left the country after negotiations with rebel groups and had given instructions to transfer power peacefully. Abu Mohammed al-Golani , a former al-Qaida commander who cut ties with the group years ago and says he embraces pluralism and religious tolerance, leads the biggest rebel faction and is poised to chart the country's future. In his first public appearance since fighters entered the Damascus suburbs Saturday, al-Golani visited the sprawling Umayyad Mosque and called Assad's fall “a victory to the Islamic nation.” Calling himself by his given name, Ahmad al-Sharaa, and not his nom de guerre, he told hundreds of people that Assad had made Syria “a farm for Iran’s greed.” The rebels face the daunting task of healing bitter divisions in a country ravaged by war and still split among armed factions. Turkey-backed opposition fighters are battling U.S.-allied Kurdish forces in the north, and the Islamic State group is still active in some remote areas. Syrian state television broadcast a rebel statement early Sunday saying Assad had been overthrown and all prisoners had been released. They called on people to preserve the institutions of “the free Syrian state.” The rebels later announced a curfew in Damascus from 4 p.m. to 5 a.m. The rebels said they freed people held at the notorious Saydnaya prison, where rights groups say thousands were tortured and killed . A video circulating online purported to show rebels breaking open cell doors and freeing dozens of female prisoners, many of whom appeared shocked. At least one small child was seen among them. “This happiness will not be completed until I can see my son out of prison and know where is he,” said one relative, Bassam Masr. "I have been searching for him for two hours. He has been detained for 13 years.” Rebel commander Anas Salkhadi later appeared on state TV and sought to reassure Syria's religious and ethnic minorities, saying: “Syria is for everyone, no exceptions. Syria is for Druze, Sunnis, Alawites, and all sects.” “We will not deal with people the way the Assad family did," he added. Damascus residents prayed in mosques and celebrated in squares, calling, “God is great.” People chanted anti-Assad slogans and honked car horns. Teenage boys picked up weapons apparently discarded by security forces and fired into the air. Revelers filled Umayyad Square, where the Defense Ministry is located. Some waved the three-starred Syrian flag that predates the Assad government and was adopted by the revolutionaries. Elsewhere, many parts of the capital were empty and shops were closed. Soldiers and police left their posts and fled, and looters broke into the Defense Ministry. Videos showed families wandering the presidential palace, some carrying stacks of plates and other household items. “It’s like a dream. I need someone to wake me up," said opposition fighter Abu Laith, adding the rebels were welcomed in Damascus with “love.” At the Justice Ministry, where rebels stood guard, Judge Khitam Haddad said they were protecting documents from the chaos. Outside, some residents sought information about relatives who disappeared under Assad. The rebels “have felt the pain of the people,” said one woman, giving only her first name, Heba. She worried about possible revenge killings by the rebels, many of whom appeared to be underage. Syria’s al-Watan newspaper, which was historically pro-government, wrote: “We are facing a new page for Syria. We thank God for not shedding more blood.” It added that media workers should not be blamed for publishing past government statements, saying it “only carried out the instructions.” A statement from the Alawite sect that has formed the core of Assad's base called on young Syrians to be “calm, rational and prudent and not to be dragged into what tears apart the unity of our country.” The rebels mainly come from the Sunni Muslim majority in Syria, which also has sizable Druze, Christian and Kurdish communities. In Qamishli in the northeast, a Kurdish man slapped a statue of the late leader Hafez Assad with his shoe. Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi Jalali said the government was ready to “extend its hand” to the opposition and turn its functions over to a transitional government. A video shared on Syrian opposition media showed armed men escorting him from his office and to the Four Seasons hotel on Sunday. Rami Abdurrahman of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told The Associated Press that Assad, 59, took a flight early Sunday from Damascus. A senior diplomat from the United Arab Emirates, which had sought to rehabilitate Assad's image and has welcomed high-profile exiles in recent years, declined to comment on his whereabouts. Anwar Gargash said Assad's destination at this point is a “footnote in history,” comparing it to the long exile of German Kaiser Wilhelm II after World War I. The rebel advances since Nov. 27 were the largest in recent years, and saw the cities of Aleppo, Hama and Homs fall within days as the Syrian army melted away. Russia, Iran and Lebanon's Hezbollah militant group, which provided crucial support to Assad throughout the uprising, abandoned him as they reeled from other conflicts. The end of Assad’s rule was a major blow to Iran and its allies, already weakened by conflict with Israel . Iran, which had strongly backed him throughout the civil war, said Syrians should decide their future “without destructive, coercive, foreign intervention.” The Iranian Embassy in Damascus was ransacked after apparently having been abandoned. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu meanwhile said Israeli troops had seized a buffer zone in the Golan Heights established in 1974, saying it was to protect Israeli residents after Syrian troops abandoned positions. Israel's military later warned residents of five southern Syria communities to stay home for their safety, and didn’t respond to questions. Israel captured the Golan in the 1967 Mideast war and later annexed it. The international community, except for the United States, views it as occupied, and the Arab League on Sunday condemned what it called Israel’s efforts to take advantage of Assad’s downfall occupy more territory. The rebels are led by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group, or HTS , which has its origins in al-Qaida and is considered a terrorist organization by the United States and the United Nations. Al-Golani, has sought to recast the group as a moderate and tolerant force. “Golani has made history and sparked hope among millions of Syrians," said Dareen Khalifa, a senior adviser with the International Crisis Group. "But he and the rebels now face a formidable challenge ahead.” The U.N.’s special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, called Saturday for urgent talks in Geneva to ensure an “orderly political transition.” The Gulf nation of Qatar, a key regional mediator, hosted an emergency meeting of foreign ministers and top officials from eight countries with interests in Syria late Saturday. They included Iran, Saudi Arabia, Russia and Turkey. Majed al-Ansari, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, said they agreed on the need “to engage all parties on the ground," including the HTS, and that the main concern is “stability and safe transition.” Sewell reported from Beirut.
