Tkachuk is excited about the opportunity. “It would definitely be a dream come true,” Tkachuk said of playing with Matthew before the announcement Wednesday. “It’s something we’ve always talked about, representing our country and playing together. “It would be really special for both of us and our entire family.” Matthew was among the first six players named in June while Tkachuk had to lock up his spot with a strong start to the year. He has 13 goals and 28 points in 24 games with the Senators this season and has been solid. This tourney is a stepping stone to playing for the Americans at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy. “Whenever you have an opportunity like this, you want to make the most of it,” Tkachuk said. “It’s going to be a highly competitive event and something I’m going to remember forever. “But it could also lead to something (more). You think about winning the Stanley Cup, but you also think about winning a gold medal for your country, too. That’d be pretty cool.” Sports Get the latest sport headlines and breaking news. Article content Tkachuk suited up for Team USA at the IIHF world championship last spring at the request of general manager Bill Guerin, along with blueliner Jake Sanderson, who was passed up by the Americans for the 4 Nations tournament. Sanderson has struggled to find consistency this season, and before the roster was announced he already knew he wouldn’t be on the 4 Nations team. Only three of his 14 points this season have come at even strength and he is minus-15. “I was excited at the start of the season, but with the season underway we have so many games it’s hard to think about it,” said Sanderson. The decision by Sweden to name Ullmark as one of its three goalies, along with Filip Gustavsson of the Minnesota Wild and Jacob Markstrom of the New Jersey Devils, isn’t a surprise. Ullmark, 31, hasn’t got off to the kind of start anybody expected with the Senators, but he has shown he can be an elite goaltender in the past and anything can happen in a short tournament. He has a 5-7-2 record in 15 appearances with the Senators, with a 3.07 goals-against average and an. 888 save percentage. Ullmark has a lot of time to improve those numbers, but he has just one win in his last six games with the Detroit Red Wings in town on Thursday. Advertisement 4 Story continues below This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Article content NHL Network analyst Kevin Weekes, a former NHL goalie, said he believes that Gustavsson has the No. 1 job heading into the tourney, but noted the coaching staff in Sweden has a tough decision to make. “The job of the goaltending is to push each other,” Markstrom said on a conference call with reporters. “We all want to be in the net and play, but (coach) Sam ( Hallam) is going to have tough decisions to make come game time.” Ullmark hasn’t had the chance to put on the Tre Kroner many times in his career so this will be something he’ll remember. “First of all, it’s a huge honour,” Ullmark said. “I haven’t had the opportunity to play with the national team overall. That was just in my career back home over in Sweden, and I think since I’ve come to (North America) I’ve only had the chance to play at the world championship once. “Whenever you get the call, it’s a huge honour and it’s something I’m very proud of. It’s an opportunity you always dream about to play with and against the best. No offence to the world championships, but all the best players aren’t there because of the Stanley Cup playoffs.” Advertisement 5 Story continues below This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. Article content The tourney will start at the Bell Centre in Montreal with four games before relocating to Boston for two games on Feb. 17. The championship game will be played on Feb. 20 at the TD Garden at 8 p.m. Ullmark is excited to see the atmosphere. “We’re playing in Montreal and Boston so it’s two great hubs for it,” Ullmark said. “It’s going to be a great atmosphere. This will be something that you’re never going to forget. It’s very exciting to think about it.” ALFIE HAS A ROLE Former Ottawa captain Daniel Alfredsson will be at the tourney as an assistant coach with Team Sweden. Swedish coach Sam Hallam confirmed on a conference call with reporters on Wednesday that he’s been in regular contact with Alfredsson in the last few months and the two have discussed systems. Hallam also visited with Alfredsson in October when he was over here doing some scouting. “It’s been more about how we want to play by picking his brain from his experience,” Hallam said in response to a question from Postmedia. Ramiro Enrique, Pedro Gallese lead Orlando City past Atlanta United 1-0 for trip to conference final
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Ramiro Enrique scored a first-half goal and that was all goalkeeper Pedro Gallese would need to lead Orlando City to a 1-0 victory over rival Atlanta United in an Eastern Conference semifinal at Inter&Co Stadium on Sunday. No. 4 seed Orlando City, in its first trip to the conference final, will host the seventh-seeded New York Red Bulls next Saturday or Sunday with a trip to the MLS Cup final on Dec. 7 on the line. The Red Bulls have made the playoffs in 14 straight seasons but never won the Cup. Orlando City grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute on an unassisted goal by Ramiro Enrique , who scored off a corner kick that struck the chest of teammate César Araújo near the goal. It was the first goal contribution for Enrique in seven playoff appearances. He scored eight times in the regular season - his second in the league. Gallese did not have to make a save in his 10th career postseason start — all with Orlando City. Three of his five shutouts in the playoffs have come in the past two seasons. He had eight clean sheets during the regular season. Brad Guzan saved three shots for Atlanta United. He has started 18 times in the postseason for Atlanta United following four starts for Chivas USA in 2006-07. IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Addison O'Grady scored 12 points and No. 24 Iowa defeated Purdue 84-63 on Sunday in a game in which only two players reached double figures in scoring. O'Grady made 4 of 7 shots and 4 of 6 free throws for the Hawkeyes (10-3, 1-1 Big Ten). Iowa's balanced scoring was so thorough that five players scored nine points and one had eight. Ford's first-ever turbo diesel mill debuted in 1994 for the F-250 and F-350 Super Duty pickup trucks. Popularly known as the 7.3 Power Stroke, it remained in production until 2003. The Ford 7.3 Power Stroke diesel wasn't only immensely torquey and powerful, but it gained a reputation for being the most robust and durable in the business. Many regard the 7.3 Power Stroke as one of the best engines ever put in a Ford truck , and industry experts crowned it as one of the best engines ever produced. It cemented the Power Stroke's reputation for being a reliable workhorse. Depending on the configuration, Ford trucks with the 7.3 Power Stroke diesel could tow 8,000 to 13,900 pounds. From 1994 to 1995, early iterations were pumping out 215 horsepower and 425 lb-ft of torque. By 1996, the diesel horsepower wars were in full swing, and Ford responded by hiking the 7.3 Power Stroke's output to 225 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. Near the end of its reign, it produced up to 275 horsepower and 525 lb-ft of torque. Ford and Navistar's 7.3 Power Stroke was a technological powerhouse. It had Hydraulically Activated, Electronic Unit Injectors (HEUI) for direct fuel injection; a Garrett turbocharger; and a fluid-to-fluid oil cooler. Later versions received an air-to-air intercooler and a wastegate on the turbocharger. More importantly, the 7.3 Power Stroke was a paragon of high-quality construction. It had forged connecting rods, cast iron cylinder heads, a steel crankshaft, and cast aluminum pistons. Meanwhile, the overhead valve design with two valves per cylinder contributed to the simplicity of the construction — traits that enabled it to run problem-free with minimal issues given timely maintenance. However, the diesel landscape was turning a new leaf by 2000. Competitors like the Cummins 5.9 and General Motors Duramax LB7 were pumping out upward of 300 horsepower, and stricter emissions regulations cast a dark cloud over the 7.3 Power Stroke's legendary performance. Ford retired the 7.3 and debuted the 6.0 Power Stroke in 2003. The new engine featured exhaust gas recirculation, variable geometry turbocharging, and a next-gen fuel injection system to produce more power and torque while adhering to emissions standards.Latest News | Gold Prices Rebound to Rs 80,000-level Despite Trump's Aggressive Trade Policy: AnalystsLuke Humphries defeats Luke Littler to retain Players Championship Finals title
Ex-Toronto Raptors point guard Fred VanVleet may be in some hot water after getting into a fiery verbal altercation with a crew of NBA officials on Saturday night. During the end of a game between the Houston Rockets and Portland Trailblazers, the 30-year-old VanVleet was ejected from the game after he pointed to each of the officials and said something. The altercation was apparently due to the ex-Raptor thinking he had been fouled on the previous play. After getting ejected, things came close to becoming physical as VanVleet continued to verbally spar with one of the officials and nearly touched one ref’s face as he was pointing. “I think I’m in enough trouble as it is tonight, so I probably don’t need to discuss too much officiating with you guys,” VanVleet reportedly said after the game, “Heat of the moment, you always feel right — I know the refs aren’t trying to be wrong but we disagreed quite a bit tonight.” This type of altercation with the officials on the court is sure to result in some sort of supplementary discipline for VanVleet. This wouldn’t be the first time that he would be punished for letting his thoughts be known about the officiating of an NBA game. Back in March of 2023, while a member of the Raptors, VanVleet following a loss to the LA Clippers. The NBA fined him $30,000 for that particular outburst. NBA fans were sure to share their thoughts on this current situation on social media. It’s become a staple of VanVleet’s fiery personality over the years to call out the refs. He is enjoying a good start to the NBA season with the Rockets as the team currently sits third in the Western Conference with a 12-6 record. The only teams better in the West are the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Golden State Warriors. No official suspension or fine has been announced for VanVleet, but it would not be surprising to see one come across in the next day or so.
